I have proofread many books since completing my qualifications in proofreading with the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading) and the PTC (Publishing Training Centre) in 2019.

I welcome projects in non-fiction across the arts, humanities and social sciences. When the subject matter is aimed at the general reader I would be happy to consider most proofreading projects.

Some recent projects have involved both proofreading and indexing a series of children's books. Having enjoyed working professionally with children in an earlier career I am pleased to offer my skills in this specialism.

Clients have included: Watkins Publishing, Brill, DK, Open University,  and self-publishing authors.

I am an Intermediate level member of the CIEP (Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading). I keep up to date with my professional development though involvement in a local group, attending conferences, and through training webinars and workshops (see my LinkedIn entry for further details).

I use a range of software including Microsoft Word and PDF editors. If you would prefer me to work on paper (hard copy) that also can be accommodated.

Fees

Each project is individual and the fee can be negotiated, but, in general I base my quotes on the CIEP’s recommended rates.

Factors which are taken into consideration include the complexity of the text, and the time available to complete the proofreading. If you would like to discuss a project do please get in touch with a few details.

Client Comment

I can highly recommend Jo as a proofreader. Working on a series of titles, Jo has spotted inconsistencies, literals, and more. Her comments are extremely helpful at the final stage of a project.
